Primary Education
Steiner Waldorf education is an integrated and holistic education. It strives to provide for the rounded and harmonious development of the whole human being, balancing the development of cognitive faculties with the cultivation of social, artistic and imaginative capacities and engagement in practical skills and experiences.
The curriculum gives equal attention to supporting the healthy development of the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, moral, cultural and spiritual needs of each child.
In the second 7-year stage of 7-14 years children are seen as entering a phase of emotional and imaginative development. The curriculum includes rich storytelling, artistic activities, hands-on learning, and an emphasis on the beauty of the world. Subjects are integrated and taught in a holistic manner, often through main lesson blocks that can last several weeks.
During the middle years, the emphasis shifts to beauty. This phase capitalizes on the child's natural imagination and creativity. The curriculum incorporates arts, music, storytelling, and an aesthetically pleasing classroom environment. Beauty in this context is not limited to physical appearance but extends to the beauty found in nature, human relationships, and artistic expressions. The goal is to cultivate an appreciation for beauty and to inspire a sense of wonder and creativity in children.
