From Edith’s Desk
I have started a new heading in the last newsletter, called ‘Vignettes from around the country’. I have become aware that writing articles for the newsletter often seems one street too far. However, I see wonderful little stories with some photos on Facebook or Instagram. These vignettes would give everyone a glimpse into the life of our centres and playgroups around the country. I have asked those people who have published them to also send these to me at edith.vandermeer@gmail.com, so I can use them in the Newsletter. Everyone who is responsible for their centre’s/playgroups’ social media pages, can you please do the same? This newsletter includes a vignette of the Taikura and Kereru kindergartens in Hastings. Keep them coming, colleagues!!
In this editorial I would like to give some attention to the passing of another one of our special Waldorf Early Childhood stalwarts, Elizabeth Moore-Haas and I’d like to share what her Swiss colleagues have written about her.
Dear colleagues in the Rudolf Steiner kindergarten and school movement in Switzerland
Dear colleagues in the training programs
Dear colleagues and friends in IASWECE and all over the world
Dear friends in the Pedagogical and Medical Section at the Goetheanum, Dornach
I would like to announce that on Saturday, October 14, 2023, Elisabeth Moore-Haas crossed the bridge to the spiritual world and returned to the spiritual world.
Her energy for anthroposophical kindergarten pedagogy has inspired countless pedagogically active people, parents, and those close to us who are
fellow campaigners for the dignity of the young child. Her courage and great strength of heart have worked and continue to have an impact in many countries of the world, especially in the Swiss Movement, her homeland.
In the hope that a worthy obituary for this personality and pioneer will follow soon, I greet you all with deep gratitude as a student, colleague, and friend of Elisabeth.
Thank you very much for passing on this message.

And that brings us already to the last month of the year, the month in which we are all busy tying all the loose ends together and celebrate the Advent festivals and for those places with a school attached, the transition for the 6-year-olds to Class one. These ceremonies are so well thought-through and so incredibly poignant for the child and their whanau alike. This is a real threshold experience for our oldest children in our groups. Wouldn’t it be nice to see some photos of these special occasions in our next newsletter?
Remember this is YOUR newsletter; what you contribute will go in it and will give the whole country a peek into how others do things. This way everyone’s flame of enthusiasm can be ignited and we can truly become a solid movement where we learn from each other and share our ideas.
Rests me to wish you all a peaceful holiday in which you may recuperate and return to work refreshed and eager.
Merry Christmas and a fruitful New Year from my house to yours, Edith
